PTD802: FDA clearance for the first human study

Worth knowing

The FDA allowed the first study of PTD802 to begin. PTD802 is an oral drug designed to help immature cells develop into cells that make myelin.

What this means for people with MS

This is an important step from laboratory work to human testing, but there is no evidence yet that it helps people with MS.

Blocking fibronectin restored remyelination in experimental models

A PNAS study found that a protein called fibronectin can build up in areas where myelin has been lost. This may trap immature cells that could otherwise become myelin-making cells. Blocking fibronectin improved myelin repair and symptoms in two animal models.
