CN045 helped immature human cells mature and increased myelin repair in mice

Worth knowing

A paper in npj Drug Discovery described CN045, a molecule that can reach the brain and spinal cord. In the laboratory it helped immature human cells develop into cells that make myelin, and in mice it increased myelin repair.

What this means for people with MS

CN045 is an interesting possible drug, but it has not been tested in people. The molecule still needs improvement, safety checks and studies of how the body processes it.

Blocking fibronectin restored remyelination in experimental models

A PNAS study found that a protein called fibronectin can build up in areas where myelin has been lost. This may trap immature cells that could otherwise become myelin-making cells. Blocking fibronectin improved myelin repair and symptoms in two animal models.
