What happened
Quantum BioPharma says it signed a Study Start-Up Agreement with Thermo Fisher Scientific's PPD clinical research business to prepare a planned Phase 2 trial of Lucid-21-302 (Lucid-MS) in people with progressive forms of multiple sclerosis (MS). The planned trial would compare Lucid-MS with placebo and assess efficacy, safety and tolerability.
What this means for people with MS
The agreement is an operational step toward a study. It does not establish that recruitment or dosing has begun, that Lucid-MS benefits people with MS, or that it repairs myelin. No approved treatment in clinical practice has been proven to reliably restore myelin in MS. No trial participation option in Greece was announced.
About the approach studied in this programme: Lucid-MS / Lucid-21-302
Lucid-21-302 is designed to inhibit PAD2, an enzyme that can citrullinate proteins in myelin. The proposed idea is to reduce excessive citrullination and protect myelin from damage; that protective effect comes from experimental work and has not been shown to remyelinate people with MS.
